Set under the towering Acacia trees of Tanzania, East Africa, Shanga is a heartwarming project dedicated to supporting and empowering disabled community members. Comprised of a bustling workshop, open-air restaurant, and three trendy boutiques, Shanga has grown exponentially from what started with one beaded necklace and a desire to help those in need.
Kilimatembo Secondary School
Visit this school to get a flavor of education in Tanzania.
“We visited Kilimatembo Secondary School today.
A guest from Superior, Wisconsin had donated a microscope which I was able to deliver and present for her family. I dusted off my skills from a college Biology degree and gave a few lessons on it. They were absolutely delighted. It is the only microscope in any school for a few hours drive.”

FAME is dedicated to improving the quality and accessibility of medical care in rural Tanzania and making a difference in the day-to-day lives of the Tanzanian people.
They strive to provide adequate tools, resources and professional support to enable our Tanzanian healthcare workers to best serve their community.
Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park was established in 2004 and covers an area of 5,000 hectares. It is the first and only National Park in Zanzibar. The park vegetation is a mixture of ground water forest, evergreen mixed forest, dry bush land, shrub land and mangroves.
This habitat is home to many animals, the most famous being the Zanzibar red colobus (Piliocolobus kirkii). This primate is endemic to Zanzibar and listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List. There are approximately 1200-1500 red colobus on the island with the largest groupings in and around the park.
On most days there are near guaranteed sightings very close to the park headquarters. Other primate species commonly sighted at the park include Skye’s monkey and at night time bushbabies (Galagos).
The park is also very good for birding and there are many trails through the forest to follow and explore, including an elevated board walk through mangroves.

Zanzibar Butterfly Centre (ZBC) is a popular Zanzibar tourist attraction featuring a live display of Tanzanian butterflies.
Revenue generated by tourist admissions provides funds for local projects in the form of alternative livelihoods, conservation and poverty alleviation.
ZBC works closely in association with Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, Jozani Environmental Conservation Association (JECA) and Pete Development Association (PDA).
